In Florida, Early Test of Obamacare’s Potency in 2014 Elections

Though the November 2014 elections are 8 months away, a battle for an open Florida congressional seat is a high-stakes, early challenge regarding a critical question for the fall: how Republican-led challenges to Obamacare will ultimately play out – then. One candidate running is Democrat Alex Sink, the state’s former chief financial officer. If she wins, Democrats may rest easy that they might be able to successfully counteract Republican-led attacks on the ACA.

The Congressional Race is towards a special election, to be held March 11 in Florida Gulf Coast’s District 13. Candidates are vying to succeed the late Republican, Bill Young, who at one point voted to repeal Obamacare. The Republican running for the seat is David Jolly who has said Democrats are wrong on the issues, including the ACA.
